Our Story
We are a family-owned business run by husband and wife team, Cal and Hayley. As parents of three young children who are absolute little monkeys, it’s probably pretty easy to guess where our name came from!
Our journey began in December 2020 when we first opened our doors, driven by a personal obsession with mastering the perfect pour-over and a desire to create a space that is genuinely welcoming to all ages.
By October 2021, we took the leap from brewing to roasting our own beans. What started as a small hobby is now a professional operation, using an advanced roaster to share our craft with you. Whether you’re here for a serious caffeine fix or bringing the whole troop for a treat, we’ve designed Ginger Monkey to be as relaxed as our own kitchen table that being “a place where everyone feels right at home!”

The Coffee Shop
Ginger Monkey started as a simple idea with it being “a place where coffee lovers could gather and enjoy the best brews around”. Since opening our doors outside Chester, we have grown into a friendly spot where everyone is welcome. Kids, dogs and good vibes are always included.
When you step into Ginger Monkey, you are not just walking into a coffee shop; you are entering a cosy spot where the smell of fresh coffee makes it easy to relax. Whether you want to catch up with friends or enjoy a cracking cup of coffee, you will feel right at home.
We have made this the kind of place we want to hang out in ourselves as we are; laid-back, authentic and always pouring something special.

Ginger Monkey is about much more than just great coffee; it is about the local community. We love to get stuck into events, back local causes, and help bring people together. This is what makes us more than just your average coffee spot.

We are proud to offer a selection of coffee beans from top growers around the world. These range from unique single origins to our own special house blends.
There is also our signature blends that show off what we can do in the roastery. We also mix it up with seasonal specials, so there is always something new to try in our Chester shop.

Through workshops, events, and online tips, we help coffee lovers in Chester learn the art of brewing and build a community around it. We want everyone to feel confident in their coffee skills and enjoy the process as much as the drink itself.

Giving Back to the Community
Being part of the local community is a big deal to us. We love finding ways to give back, whether it is through our Keep Clean initiative where we reward litter picking with a treat or supporting local groups like the Countess of Chester Hospital. We even work with Chester Zoo on their Sustainable Palm Oil Project to help protect wildlife through the way we choose our suppliers.
Our efforts do not stop at local events; we also focus on being as sustainable as possible in our daily work. We give away used coffee grounds for local gardeners to use as fertiliser and use reusable glass bottles for our milk deliveries. Everything we do is about bringing people together and making sure Ginger Monkey is a positive force in our neighbourhood.
